Demon in the Wood Graphic Novel by Leigh Bardugo
5.0
This book was my first graphic novel. Leigh Bardugos writing with Dani Pendergast's artwork is a beautiful experience. I read the short story before. But I am in love with the Grishaverse. So, how could I not get this illustrated version?! All the pages were gorgeous and added a little flair to this heart-breaking story!
This book is perfect for Shadow and Bone fans and/or Darkling fans. It gives a glimpse into the Darkling's life pre-Shadow and Bone. I love the Darkling and always have. I can't help but feel drawn to him. He is such a complex character.
I highly recommend reading this after the trilogy. You will get a deeper look into the Darkling's origins and motives. Newfound understandings will have you questioning everything he's ever done and how you felt about him. It all makes sense now. Not saying all his actions were necessary, but they are somewhat valid. The Darkling had a hopeful dream gone wrong and became power/fear hungry and lonely.
"Fear is a powerful ally, but feed it too often, make it too strong, and it will turn on you."
