The Oracle Queen by Kendare Blake

4.0

I love the Three Dark Crown series, and I have to wait until fall for the next book, so I was excited to pick up this novella. It tells an interesting tale set about 500 years before the events of TDC and ODT, when the last oracle queen sat the throne. Elsabet is gifted with the sight, but even this power cannot illuminate the treachery of her Council. She goes against tradition, trying to rule her way, and this rubs many Council members, including Francesca Arron (ancestor of Natalia), who plots against the queen.

I like Kendare Blake's writing style, so I enjoyed this novella. It was also interesting to learn more about oracle queens, since by the events of TDC/ODT, no queen born with the sight gift are allowed to live past infancy. V. excited for Two Dark Reigns in a few more months!
