I went straight into this after reading the first novel. The violence and graphic images only intensify in book 2! Now we've got war, dictatorship, torture, imprisonment and literal genocide? Damn, Patrick.
The female rep felt slightly better in this one, although most of the women are either victims of a tyrant or branded as terrorists. It kind of felt like Ness took all of the political talking points of today and rammed them in a book set on an alien planet with NO subtlety. The craziest thing is that this was published like 15 years ago?!
The dual POV actually worked well, with good pacing and POV switching. But again, it felt too long. This book and the first would have been better with only 300 pages each. I was intrigued to see how a solution to the conflict is found in book 3. I have since read book 3 and I can say it was 100% not worth it and dragged so much 😫
