sea_me 's review for:
Si c'est un homme
by Primo Levi
One of the most important books I have read.
The first time I read it, I was too young, and it scarred me deeply. All I saw was the suffering, the cruelty, the pain, the torture... Then I re-read it years later, and suddenly a new take on it opened up. I read the resilience of a man who was facing the most atrocious of human behavior. I read the thoughts of a man who refused to give up hope, who showed kindness to those who needed it even when he had nothing to give, and whose survival in the camp is nothing short of miraculous.
This book is a must read for everyone.
