I got to immerse read The Four Engagements Rings of Sybil Rain by Hannah Brown whichwas delightful. The story follows Sybil Rain as she takes the honeymoon trip to Hawaii that she never took with her ex-fiancé Jamie, who dumped her at the altar after she abandoned their wedding weekend. Sybil runs into Jamie who is there with his gorgeous coworker and to save face, she lies and says she is there with her boyfriend. However, it is clear that they still have unresolved feelings and when the complication of another ex-fiancé (Seb) showing up, then things become actually kind of hilarious.
What did I like? I liked a lot about this book. I thought the concept was very creative. It was surprisingly well written, I will admit that I was assuming it would be more in-line with other reality stars' writing but I thought it was good. Now about the story, my favorite thing was the female friendships, I thought the girlhood themes were so sweet. I also really liked Jamie, he's iconic and beyond reproach. Honestly he did nothing wrong. I can see why he left her. Also I know I'm not even supposed to like him like that but I really liked Seb and hope we get his story soon. I also really liked Sybil's growth from the flashbacks because she used to be flighty and bad at communicating which is a bad combo in my opinion.
What didn't I like? I don't like dual timelines, so I wished that the flashback scenes were shorter. Also as I mentioned, I did immersive reading which allowed me to listen to the book. I did not like the narrator. I think the audiobook might have benefitted from a duet because the male voices were not great in my opinion.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants a dramatic second-chance romance. I read it without reading the first in the series so I think it would be perfectly fine to be read independently of the series order. I do not recommend this book to anyone looking for something really serious, this might not be for you. Overall I do recommend this book.
Thank you to NetGalley, Hachette Audio | Forever, and Hannah Brown for giving me the opportunity to listen to this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
