We all thought (or at least I did) that the Flavia de Luce series was ending with number ten. But then, Alan Bradley decided to write some more. At least that's the way I heard it. And I'm so glad he did, because, as I indicated in my thoughts on book ten, it was a bit of a downer. It seemed sad, and Flavia didn't seem to be her usual self.

Well, never mind any of that. She's back, and more precocious than ever in book eleven! This one seems to hit the ground running. There are plenty of times when I laughed at things that Flavia said or did, and her interactions with Dogger seemed more natural in this tale.

However, somewhere along chapter nine or ten, something happens that almost made me fall out of my chair. Of course, I cannot reveal it. I had a hint that something big was coming, from a reader friend of mine who was also reading it. In fact, it was she who encouraged me to hurry up and get it so she could talk to someone about what she had just read. This was definitely one of those HOLY CRAP moments! And it changes everything.

Chapters eight through ten of this book are pretty much unputdownable, and, in my opinion make this one the best of all of the Flavia stories, thus far. I was reading during my lunch break at my library job, and had to stop before the big reveal, which was terribly difficult to do.

Fans of Flavia (FoF?) should most definitely love this latest installment in her adventures. Now, I can't wait for the next one! At least I hope there's a next one!
