On the front of my book there is a quote about the author that says 'Heir to Christie'. I am going to have to bed to differ and say, inspired by Christie, for sure, but an heir to one of the greatest crime writers ever, sadly not.
This is a decent read mind you. Definitely page turner vibes. I found myself fairly hooked and plowing through it but at the same time not hugely invested in it. I just wanted to know because I am nosey rather than I cared about anyone in particular.
Robyn is likeable but also a little hard to believe. I know she is meant to be relying on her journalistic roots but she has never actually worked as a journalist and she is remarkably cool and collected espeically in the face of the fact that maybe her boyfriend is the killer. But the book needed a 'detective' and so what can you do.
Everyone else is fairly awful. That is not actually an issue. In fact Christie often made many of her characters awful entitled people but the problem here was we got some POV from them which meant you could fairly quickly rule them out as the murdered leaving really only two candidates.
The ending was fine if a little perfectly and neat and I overall I did enjoy it. If you love a who dunit, classic murder mystery then this one definitely fits the bill. It would be a great holiday read, especially if you happened to be on Lakel Garda as the beauty of the place definitely comes through in the book.
