Sisters by Raina Telgemeier
3.0
lighthearted reflective relaxing fast-paced

The author has created a graphic novel memoir which is fairly relatable (albeit it's about wealthier people than I can really relate to). Raina always wanted a little sister but the one she got is prickly, tactless and really a mixed blessing. The genuine antagonism and also traces of affection is well portrayed as is the fact that sometimes adults don't get along with their families either. That was probably my take-home from it all. I probably related to Amara (the little sister) more than anyone because she is a nerd who loves animals and has no social skills. I felt sorry for Raina though and I though her cousins were terrible, especially "Linseed" the narcissist. It does show how awkward the process of growing up is. There was a scene with a teddy bear which made me sad and then a scene which fixed it.

Families are not perfect and the lively pictures make this an easy to read book. As always I am not convinced I am the main audience for graphic novels but I am glad they exist.
