Okay, I really needed a Romantic Fantasy fix and this book kept popping up. I decided to give it a try because the cover is gorgeous! Like it's seriously a piece of art! I need it on my wall...

This story was quite unique and a breath of fresh air. We have Silhara of Neith who isn't the nicest guy but for some reason, it worked. He said some mean things to Martise but he did it in order to push her away. At first, he did it since he believed her to be a spy. But, once he realized that loved her...Oh man...... He hurt my heart. He fully said that he didn't like that he had a weakness but the love he had for Martise is....I can't find words. He is a powerful sorcerer who is tormented by the God, Corruption. I liked seeing the constant fight between Silhara and the evil God.
Martise was a slave, who did go into the Neith manor as a spy but soon realized she could never earn her freedom by betraying a good man, whoms he grew to love. She had a quiet strength and she honestly won me over with her inability to sing. I died of laughter!
“His eyebrows rose almost to his hairline.  “Singing.  Is that what you call it?  It sounded like someone was torturing a cat.”
“I thought I might work faster if I sang."
“Unfortunately, his answers to Gurn’s unspoken questions were loud and clear.
“That was Martise you heard.  She was…singing.”
“Trust me, I’m not jesting.  You can unload your bow.”
His next indignant response made her smile.  “No, I wasn’t beating her!  She’s the one tormenting me with that hideous wailing!”
Martise hid her smile when he reappeared before her.  His scowl was ferocious.  “Don’t sing.”  He pointed a finger at her for emphasis.  “You’ve scared my dog, my birds and my servant with your yowling.”  He paused.  “You’ve even managed to scare me.”

I couldn't stop laughing!!! One reason it's not getting the 5th star is because the first 20% was kind of slow but it still didn't hinder my reading experience. This book was humorous as well as endearing. I look forward to reading more of Grace Draven's work!
