“Humbling women seems to me a chief pastime of poets. As if there can be no story unless we crawl and weep.”

Circe, daughter of the God of Sun and the mightiest of the Titans, was a strange child. She didn’t not have powers like her father and was not viciously alluring like her mother. Turning to the world of mortals for comfort she finds that she does have the power of witch craft. She is banished to a deserted Island by Zeus where she Hines her craft, tames wild beasts, and crosses paths with many of famous figures in all of mythology. But there is danger too and Circe must summon all her strength and choose, once and for all, who she belongs with.

Circe is the OG cottage core witch. A beautiful feminist Greek mythology retelling about a witch that is on her path of self discovery and coming into her own power. I really enjoyed this book. As someone that has read a lot of Greek mythology it was nice to see a retelling from the POV of a character that is often portrayed as the antagonist in other stories. Circe’s path of learning that what others think of her does not amount to her worth, but what she thinks and knows of herself does, leads to her healing and helps her to weave her own story. I gave this book 4 ⭐️’s.
