Whispers Under Ground by Ben Aaronovitch
4.25

This was the first of this series that just really came together for me as a totally immersive fun read. I loved the world building of the underground, integrating aspects of London history, but into something new and interesting. I had been skeptical of bringing Leslie into the Folly, but that actually worked to integrate her more, and give different perspectives on the paranormal elements. While the resolution to the mystery was more of the "ha remember that thing you'd forgotten about" than the "subvert your understanding of the core characters"type, the slow reveal of the victim's story was very effectively done, and it was nice to connect the various elements.
And, as always, it was full of easy self-deprecating humour and sly historical and political history references.
