I got unexpectedly emotional when finishing this book. I started this series almost two years ago, and finally completing it felt… sentimental! And although I do feel accomplished at completing a 9 book series, that’s not the cause of my emotions. I just wasn’t ready to say goodbye to Emily and her ragtag group of friends and family.

Kazu Kibuishi’s artwork is some of the best I’ve seen in any graphic novel. His illustrations are stunning, and he’s created such fun and unique characters throughout the series. In hindsight, I wish I had read the books closer together because the long gaps left me confused about certain parts of the story.

Looking at this book on its own (rather than the series as a whole), there were a few things I didn’t love. Some new characters were introduced, but their roles and significance weren’t clear to me. I also would have liked a more in-depth wrap-up for some of the major groups of characters we met along the way.

That said, I really appreciated the deeper exploration of Ikol and his motives. But I still have questions—where is he now? What actually happened to him and his masters?

On a lighter note, I absolutely loved Cora and Cala. And Bren’s giant form? Adorable! (Iykyk ☺️)

Overall, while the ending left me with some lingering questions, this was a beautiful and emotional conclusion to a series I’ll always cherish.
