I thought this book was going to be about how society has a certain expectation of women but you don’t have to force yourself to fit into it and just be your authentic self while succeeding at your job.

But GOD this book absolutely sucked. CANNOT RECOMMEND AT ALL. The author really gave the vibe that she hates women and most of her “tips” were how to act more like men because apparently that’s what makes you succeed at work and get promotions. EXCUSE ME??? She basically said go out of your way not to do things that are considered stereotypically feminine (even if that’s your authentic self). And also go out of your way to not do things that are TOO masculine because that won’t be authentic - i.e. stay in your lane and don’t do things women shouldn’t do. Like do you see my confusion here maam??

Even some of the mistakes that I KNOW I do and need to fix, I didn’t want to take her advice on because of how much I could not stand the callous way she talked about women.

Many regrets about picking this book for my work book club.
