The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson

dark informative medium-paced

4.0

Kind of felt like reading two books at once. Both interesting and kind of related but not necessarily that important to each other. The World's Fair stuff I found far more engaging than the HH Holmes story, and that's coming from a true crime nut. There's just not enough info about Holmes to be fully convinced by the story that's being told.
It's got decent characterization of Chicago as a sort of main character of the book, but feels a little too focused on the upper echelons of society without showing much of the every day man. Lots of talk about unemployed men, but little from their perspective.
Still a very enjoyable book.
