This book was incredible. It was everything I wanted it to be and more. This author has catapulted herself into being one of my favorite authors. The writing, just as it had been in Song of Achilles, was gorgeous. There were so many wonderful quotes, I was underlining and marking so many pages. This is a story that spans many, many years, and I expected some parts of it to drag a little bit because of how much was covered overall. I was very wrong. There was not a single moment in this book where I was bored or felt the story was even a little bit dull. Whether it was Circe alone or there were other characters involved every page was engaging and easily held my attention. Circe's character was amazing as well. The way she was characterized and shown in a light she is rarely looked upon with was written amazingly. I was captivated by her every experience and all the lessons she learned and all the obstacles she overcame throughout every second of this book. The way she was touched and deeply impacted by every single other character, such as the gods, both her family and not, and the many mortals she encounters as well. Every experience she has helps to shape her into who she ends up being at the end of the book. She undergoes so many transformations within herself to finally get to what she wants. It was, as I said earlier, captivating to watch unfold. This book will stay on my mind for a long time, and it will go down as one of my favorite books of all time. I loved it so much, and recommend it highly.
