I may have messed this up for myself, because I read the second book in this series before the first book, without realizing that it was the second book. To start - I liked the second book better, and that did paint my perception of this book a bit. However, I still really enjoyed this book! It's quirky and interesting, it is a classic mystery but it also subverts your expectations a bit and has a twist.
The cast of characters was compelling and odd, the twists and turns of the story well developed but still surprising when you reach them, and a satisfying conclusion that a real sleuth could figure out (not me - I'm just here for the ride).
I love the dark humour of these books as well - it makes me want to create a bingo card for my own family reunions.
I will be looking forward to the next book in the series now!
