Palace of the Omega, Vol. 1 by Fumi Tsuyuhisa

4.0

I, once again, am starting with a 'it wasn't bad, but'. Artsytle? Gorgeous. Story? Fine. Main character? Enjoyable. But somehow I kinda struggled getting into it. I think it is due to the fact that beginning really threw me off. Khalid, the love interest, is 10 at the start of the book. It is obvious that our main character Ilia has no interest in him, but ti still makes it a little icky. Right now, it is kinda hard to root for the romance, I guess? I know they get together when Khalid is an adult, and that this is all an arrange marriage, but still, it is hard to get over the initial hurdle. Though I don't think Ilia already loves him, it is kind of a hard pill to swallow. Like, they know each other half a year? A little longer? But him being this attached is... I don't know. I will say, I do like Ilia as a main charater. He is a no-nonsense omega and there isn't a moment he is acutally venurable or submissive. I was waiting for him to stab Zayn. I really hope he will, othewise it would be a waste of a daggar. The time-skip and them being apart makes the age-gap a little less uncomfortable, but volume 2 has to do a lot of heavy lifting to make the romance really rootable. Storywise? Really interesting. I really like how Ilia took up the role as a saviour for the common folk, that he helps them, but refuses to offer weapons to the rebels, as he doesn't believe that fighting is the solution. I am still intersted in seeing how the second volume will resolve the conflict and get rid of Zayn. Depending on that one, I will either keep the series or go 'welp, that is a shame'. Like, I am always willing to give works a try, especially short series like these, but I want to get a bit more picky in what I keep. If the romance doesn't improve, it is getting the axe.
