This book was so slow and drawn out. 60% of it could be cut out and not change the story whatsoever. It gets confusing because so many yet so little things are happening and it's hard to keep track. The characters are good, I absolutely need a Gwynplaine in my life, he is adorable, and iIgot really attached to him, Dea, Ursus and Homo and their relationship. It was bittersweet and a lovely, tragic story. I also think it's a really interesting representation of the monarchy. The last chapter was fucked up and absolutely unnecessary, very upsetting. I'm glad this got the musical made of it recently and I hope they make another movie since there's just the shit French one and the silent Conrad Veidt one (the Italian one doesn't exist to me), this story has a lot of potential. It's really great, but I can't see many people nowadays bothering to read this depressing, boring ass book.
