I received my copy for free in exchange for my review.
It took me FOREVER but I finally finished this book.
I really enjoyed this one. The characters had really strong development and I thought the world building was solid. I found it a bit slow in the beginning, but October, the author, created a setting that was easy to follow and understand for the rest of the story.
I enjoyed Mila’s self-discovery journey and Thislen’s redemption. I was genuinely surprised by a few parts and found myself wincing like the characters would. I was also glad to see that romance was not a theme in this book because that could have easily been the case and I appreciated that as a deviation from my usual themes.
I found sometimes that the story did more telling than showing, but it’s not unnatural, nor does it break the immersion of the story, which I really appreciated.
Overall, this is a great novel and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is into fantasy or looking for something totally different than their typical wheelhouse.
