The Agathas
by Liz Lawson, Kathleen Glasgow
(4.75 Stars)
Sometimes, I will really dig deep into my next novel, and sometimes, I go in with no information. I read very little of the description and I was pleasantly surprised. Murder, scandal, abuse, and a pretty good story.
Murder mysteries come a dime a dozen. They start off with characters you hate, salacious behavior, then someone bites it and you figure out the killer, but The Agatha’s was more than that, as the story starts with Alice. Spoiled (check), rich (check) but her character proves she much more than that towards the end.
She does the spoiled brat thing when her boyfriend dumps her and disappears for five days and then suddenly returns. But on Halloween, when her ex-best friend (Brooke), who’s now with the boyfriend that dumper her (Steve), goes missing.
Enter Iris Adams who would be Alice’s tutor and become a likely ally and friend. Alice and Iris bond over the death of Brooke, and it’s when the ex-boyfriend (Steve) is arrested for the murder that they band together with Iris’s friends to find out what happened to Brooke on that faithful Halloween night.
A small town with a history of secrets and lies, as unsuspecting Alice and Iris are about to enter a world where they would face danger and the killer behind it all. This was a great audiobook to listen to, and it ran a total of 10 hours.
