I thought A Court of Frost and Starlight was cute, despite my initial expectations. I went into it thinking it would be little more than a holiday special. And yes, it is centered around the Winter Solstice, making it feel more like a December read than something suited for May, but that didn’t bother me too much. In fact, I think this book is a necessary addition to the series, like a hidden gem.

It offers a valuable look at the aftermath of the war, showing how different characters are coping and beginning to rebuild. The multiple POVs were a nice touch, adding depth and variety to the story. I also believe it works well as an interlude between A Court of Wings and Ruin and A Court of Silver Flames, which I’ve heard focuses on Cassian and Nesta. We see a lot of Nesta’s internal struggles in this one, and that was one of my favorite aspects. Her scenes felt raw and important for what’s likely to come next.

The moments between Rhys and Feyre were another highlight. They’re usually a hit for me, and this book serves as a nice semi-conclusion to their arc, offering some closure before the focus shifts to other characters.

Overall, A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas gets 4 stars from me. It’s cute, and most likely an important build-up to the next installment.
