The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury

This is one that I never read growing up, but I loved the movie. I'm obviously past the age of the target audience, but I am so glad I finally read this Halloween classic. It's not often you find a book written in the 70s that tackles the way other cultures celebrate the dead in a way that is respectful of their traditions. This book also tackles illness/death of a child in a way that isn't too frightening for children. (AND it takes place in rural Illinois, which you never see)
