The Aeneid by Virgil
3.0
It's nice to read something over 2000 years old and not know how it's going to end! It's really interesting to see how The Aeneid has influenced modern writing (e.g. discussions with father figures in the land of the dead in His Dark Materials). Also interesting to read after the Iliad because there are a lot of references to that. The chunks where Vergil lists ships/soldiers aren't as boring as in Homer's Iliad but the ending was so unsatisfying and the poem actually feels unfinished. It's such a sudden end and doesn't actually show if Aeneas found the new homeland he was seeking for his people. The translation is very readable and generally the footnotes are helpful without being overly intrusive. There's also a very helpful glossary - we're just missing a map!
