The Eyre Affair
by Jasper Fforde
I wish I could give a 3.5 stars because this wasn't exactly 4, but it was better than 3. I really enjoyed the universe this book is written in. In fact, I believe it is the way the world should be. We should all know, love, embrace, and exist upon literature. My favorite scene in the book was when Thursday goes to a performance of Richard III in which the audience members are the actors and there is audience participation throughout the play. It was amazing to me. I want to live in this world!
I loved the writing. I loved all the mentions of famous works of literature. I loved all the allusions. It is a great idea for a series.
My only complaint is how Thursday's romantic life ended in the book. I wasn't happy about that. But the plot was great, though, the Eyre part of the book was a long time in coming, believe me.
Overall, it was an enjoyable book. :)
