Darling Venom
by Parker S. Huntington
I have to admit that when I first started reading this one, I wasn’t really in the mood for it. It’s so sad and truly hard to read because kids should never FEEL like they did in the beginning of this story. I know it’s a “thing” I know it happens (happened to a family member of mine and MANY of my husbands’ former military friends) and almost couldn’t even push through it. However, I did despite my reservations and am really glad I decided to keep reading.
This book is more than what I thought it would be. It’s emotional yes, but there is also a great storyline behind it. Some moments were a little iffy to me (I didn’t like Tate at first, her was a little cringey) but he did grow on me as his character grew. I also loved how the authors allowed us to understand the characters motivations (especially Kellen). Sometimes authors leave things too open and bare but that wasn’t the case here. Had it been then I would not have enjoyed it.
All in all, I think this was a solid read and I’m glad I read it. This book does have emotional themes that could be triggering for some so make sure to read the trigger warnings prior to going in. I’ll leave it below:
Trigger warning: suicide, depression
