4.5 stars ~ Audiobook
Lucy Score flaunts her dirty birdy side in By a Thread, a grumpy/sunshine, enemies-to-lovers office rom com. It’s warm, funny, hotter than Hades, and I was glued to every entertaining moment.
Shout out to my girl Ally. She is fiercely Independent (yes, the capital “I” is necessary). Even in the face of financial desperation and a family crisis, she manages to remain optimistic and resourceful. I loved her spunk. She gives as good as she gets with Dominic, whereas everyone else is intimidated by the handsome, taciturn, powerful alphahole.
There’s something satisfying about a strong man being brought to his knees by a woman. Dominic’s slowly unraveling cool demeanor is a joy to behold. He quickly becomes obsessed with Ally without her even trying. If anything, she delights in riling him up. Their love/hate relationship is hilarious and magnetic. Break your fans out because when they finally get it together, they burn the house down with their chemistry and Dominic’s fluent dirty talk. Not too shabby for two characters in their 40s!
Abby’s relationship with her aging, ailing father is touching. I loved Abby’s best friend who happens to own a strip club. I think Faith could have a fun story of her own to tell.
The By a Thread audiobook is narrated by Erin Mallon, who never disappoints. I was surprised by how much humor Sebastian York effectively conveys as Dominic.
