This book just exceeded expectations. In my opinion, this was the best in the series; the longest, and it didn’t feel like forever at all. I needed time to digest everything that happened. If I could give more stars, I would.
The book spans 20 years, and truly it’s not for the faint of heart. If Jade War depleted you, Jade Legacy is here to quadruple that and even then that is an understatement. This book was well-thought out, nothing felt rushed. One of the best things I like about this series is that nothing was really convenient. You know every character here is not safe and protected and that when trouble comes, there is no easy way out for any of them. The time jumps threw me at first and it did take me some time to get used to, but I feel like this gave more depth to the characters. You can see the change in the way their mind works as they grow older, what they thought of their younger selves actions or decisions. The characters are well-fleshed out - they always have been though - and their motivations were clear as always. As for the plot, I didn’t make any predictions but this definitely had a lot of twists. There were times I needed to stop reading so I could catch my breath.
As you can see, I really have no qualms with this conclusion. I applaud Fonda Lee’s mind and writing. The Green Bone Saga is a puzzle and its pieces come together perfectly.
