Mercy by Rebecca Lim
2.0

Although Mercy is a strong female lead who recognises that she doesn't need a man to define herself (thus an excellent role model for young readers after the likes of Bella), i didn't find it engaging. I may be slightly above the target audience but a good story, i believe, should engage peple of all ages. I didn't lose myself in the book and not from lack of trying, I just often found myself reading the text but thinking about other things. The action picked up around chapter 22 (there are 24 chapters) where i found myself thinking 'there may be potential for the second book yet'. But the action was short lived, which was irritating, especially after reading pages upon pages about choir rehersal.
The world Rebecca is creating is an interesting idea but isn't explained clearly so i often found myself cofused and more than a little lost, thus my mind wandering.
I wont be rushing out to reading the sequel, Exile, as soon as its released but I might give it go, in the hope of a clear explanation of Mercy's world. That is, if my reserves at the library aren't ready for collection yet.
