Five Weeks in a Balloon by Jules Verne

1.0

I really did not like this story at all. This is, by the way my first verne novel, and I'll definitely give his work a second chance but I'll wait a few month because this just wasn't it.
At first I was going to give it two stars but I decided on giving it 1 after feeling so dreadful while getting through it. The story I didn't find interesting in the slightest, it was all just, three guys in a ballon going over Africa and OH a minor inconvenience happens, but the 'i know everything' main character always has a solution in a few minutes. Which just really made me not care at all about the situations they got in because I knew they would be out of that situation on the end of the chapter. I just felt like there was nothing going on and I felt bored throughout. I really didn't like the characters either. Ferguson was over was too confident, all of joe's actions were just him helping his 'master' and dick, I only remember he was a hunter and way too attached to his gun, and I just finished reading this five minutes ago so that's saying something.
It also had quite a lot of racism in it, which, I know it's a novek from the mid 19th century, but it still made me either uncomfortable, or just annoyed at all the very racist things said by the characters.
I still have quite high hopes for the rest of his works though, I'll read another one in a few months or so and we'll see how that goes.
