Character
This was challengin to listen to at times. I knew it would be before starting and tried to fortify myself. I felt many strong emotions that disquieted me but I felt compelled to continue.
The writing is somehow beautiful and poetic despite what is being said. The version of the audiobook I listened to was narrated by Toni Morrison herself. Her voice added to the solemnity of the story.
This is the kind of book you have to come back to in order to fully absorb everything. The subject matter was often hard to endure but that's part of what makes this book so important.
