Breathless
by Amy McCulloch
The first 300 or so pages of this book were some strange combination of self-help and crazy mountaineering cult memoir. It was repetitive: we climbed, it was cold, we sat in a tent, we climbed, it was cold, we sat in a tent. Only the last 50ish pages were actually thrilling and those were super rushed. I didn't find 'mystery' throughout the book very compelling, and I hated the way the MC allowed herself to be treated. Some of the men on the expedition spoke to her like she was an irritating child. And not only does she not call them on it, but she doesn't even have a mental conversation with herself about how they shouldn't speak to her that way. I just kept waiting for her to stand up for herself.
