Ghost Train to the Eastern Star by Paul Theroux
4.0
An amazing an inspiring look at travel, mostly via train, across Asia. I had wanted to do much the same trip as Theroux does, and reading this book only solidified my desire as well as giving me some concrete ideas. That said, it's not a very detailed book. It's impressionistic, not a how-to. Theroux also seems a little fixated on the sex trade in several countries, especially near the end of his journey. Having been to Bangkok I can understand how surprising it can be, but, really... Although the interlude of wandering a Akihabara erotica shop with Haruki Murakami is amusing.
