Flesh and Stone by Emily Hemenway, Emily Hemenway

First official book of Spooktober 2021!

I had this one pre-ordered as soon as I learned it had been supposed to be part of that now scuttled Monster Fucker Anthology. (Why can't people just stop doing stupid so we can have the nice things? Mmmm...Anyway!)

Synopsis: Thomas Alexander Rutherford gets himself into a bit of a pickle taking on a powerful witch, Philomena Martin, and gets himself cursed to remain entombed as a gargoyle statue with his mind sent to a Dead Zone for eternity (or what feels like it.) Nearly 200 years later, FBI Forensic Accountant Hannah
Spoilerwho happens to be Philomena's descendant
accidentally releases him. Upon awakening, he scoops her up and flies away with her. After a brief conversation to clear up a minor misunderstanding-that he doesn't want to kill her-Hannah invites Thomas to come stay with her while they figure out what to do with an 8 foot tall gray monster with wings in the middle of NYC.

Thomas is a consummate gentleman, and spends the first half of the first night on her bedroom floor, but the attraction between them quickly heats up, and Hannah finds out all the advantages of inviting an English Gentleman Cursed to be a Gargoyle home with you.

The story ends with a set up prepared for a full series of additional tales set in the same universe with other cryptids, poltergeists, and cursed persons working for the Order of Supernatural Investigators.
