The Wild Robot by Peter Brown

5.0

I honestly can’t handle how many amazing middle grade books there are now. I mostly read middle grade when I was the intended audience, then read more “adult” things, and then took a large break from reading. When I got back into it I saw amazing reviews for tons of middle grade options, stories I wish I’d had to enjoy back then, but now get to enjoy reading aloud to my kids.

This was the sweet story of a robot who is booted up on an island after a storm, and who struggles to fit in, survive, and to raise her (animal) child. There were sad parts and happy parts, plenty of action, and a sci-fi element, with the existence of Roz, that is different from the typical talking animals middle grade story. We’re definitely excited to read the sequel.
