Don't Cry for Me
by Daniel Black
I cried quite a bit reading this book. The introduction struck me - an intriguing and healing thought to write to yourself what you needed from your father after he passed. I cried quite a bit at Jacob’s struggles in telling his son everything he needed to before he left. My heart ached - the cycle of abuse is so hard to escape and imagining an older man seeing the cycle for what it was and feeling remorse at the end ripped me to shreds. And yet how beautiful that he was able to see it for what it was in the end.
I love this book. A story of Black manhood and fatherhood and the pain of realizing your wrongs. 5 stars for sure.
