Helen and Troy's Epic Road Quest
by A. Lee Martinez
Two teens on a road trip while questing for a Lost God. A simple and accurate plot description that doesn't come close to explaining what went on in this story.
This was the first book in a long time where I stayed up past 3:00 am to finish reading. I couldn't put it down. I would put the bookmark in stand up to put out the light...and sit back down and start reading again. Each chapter was short and ended up perfectly setting up the next one that I just had to keep reading to see what happened next.
It did have a somewhat slow start as it set up the world and the characters but after their first official quest mission things pick up fast and never slowed down. I didn't really get a strong feel for the world this book is set in but the characters were so relateable and so much fun I didn't really care in the end.
The two leads were engaging and I really cared how their story progressed and ended even if you could see it coming from a mile away, which sort of fit the books world in many ways, and even the side characters were fun if not exactly fleshed out at times.
This book was so much fun and such a pleasure to read it was well worth the loss of sleep to finish it.
