The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan

3.0

PERCY IS BACK!!! I MISSED HIM SO MUCH!!! I'm glad that being sassy is just built into him. No amount of brain fog can take that away.
"Yes," Percy said. "I declare that this is stupid.”
To be honest, I like the Jason-Leo-Piper dynamic a lot more as in a lot of places, these three felt flat and unable to connect. The way they all viewed each other was pretty one dimensional with not a lot of room to grow, not in the way the Lost Hero Trio had, but individually, they had really fun backstories.

ANDDD!!! MY BOY NICOOO!!! My favorite character ever is back and he's as messed up as ever! And he may or may not be Norted, stay tuned to find out.
“Percy scowled. "I-I know you."
Nico raised his eyebrows. "Do you?”
And that appearance of Thanatos,,, the Hades fan in me went insane. Just waiting for a little Zagreus to follow. [Death Approaches!!!]

I also have. A lot of issues with this book. Particularly, the depiction of Roman society, the glorification of (child) soldiers and war and greed, and the very elementary school-ish view on relationships.

Hazel and Frank's relationship also felt very. Dull. It's said to us a lot that Frank likes Hazel but we're never really led to believe it. To be honest, if it was never said that Frank liked her, I would've just glossed over it. And Hazel just. Suddenly liking Frank after he became 'strong'. Yikes. They wish they were Percy and Annabeth.
Annabeth's face, her blond hair and gray eyes, the way she laughed, threw her arms around him, and gave him a kiss whenever he did something stupid.

She must have kissed me a lot, Percy thought.
