We Had to Remove This Post
by Hanna Bervoets
thought this book set out what it intended to do, but that’s about it. it was not half as “shocking & repulsive” as everyone made it out to be. the premise of their jobs (moderating offensive content seen online) is what initially drew me to the book, since i think it poses such an interesting question that all of us consuming online media never think about.
also thought it was so clever of the author to showcase how slowly but surely viewing these disturbing & offensive images & videos subtly changed their worldviews & relationships. it all quite literally changed their ways of thinking. all of this also makes me wonder how viewing everything we do online will affect us in 10-20 years… scary stuff.
idea behind this was spectacular & i’d love to read more on it in the future. sadly, nothing blew me away.
also. the most unbelievable part of all of this was the main character’s name being kayleigh…. shit’s tacky.
