Legendborn by Tracy Deonn

I've missed being in a contemporary fantasy setting and this was an enthralling ride into grief, love, and old English myth/lore. It had spiritual traditions and African American history beautifully woven through in such a satisfying way. I want to go up to Tracy Deonn and just thank her for the incredible story she's given us. It felt deeply personal and magical and I am so ready to devour the next book.
It's nice to have a good-boy heartthrob as a change of pace in YA fantasy. Nick was a darling and Sel was the devilish charmer we all needed.
Bree Matthews was complex, messy, compassionate, and so strong in heart. I wish I got a bit more of her and Alice together but otherwise, this was amazing.
