Super Doll

March bonus wheel spin -- surprise delivery!
What I Didn’t Like:
-Some grammatical errors. Not the obvious ones, no typos. Just things that would normally get caught in proofreading (like my personal pet peeve “could care less”).
-Love story felt … unbelievable. That’s the best word I can think of. I didn’t feel invested and I didn’t feel convinced their feelings were real. That would be problematic if this were a romance, but it’s NOT so we’re good.
-Some of the dialogue felt unnatural. I’m so particular about dialogue lately that this may be a personal one. But I noticed a few spots were they used each other’s names more often than is natural in conversation, for example.
What I Did Like:
-Ending. You all know what kind of endings I like, so be aware! This ending doesn’t give you all the answers, but it does satisfy enough of the story to make me happy. I love that it lingers in your mind and makes you think.
-The premise. Warring factions on an isolated island? A single person from the “outside” dropped onto the island? This person having some significance to both sides? Yes, please.
-Ruth/Piper. I normally sort of hate when characters have two names, but I didn’t let this one bother me. Piper is a GREAT character. She’s smart but sceptical, she’s daring but not perfect. Really, anyone else in this role wouldn’t have worked. Thoroughly enjoyed this MC and would totally read something else with her as the star!
Who Should Read This One:
-Fans of unraveling mysteries on isolated islands, you’ll love this one.
-If the niche “GASLIGHTING FANTASY” sounds good … get this one.
My Rating: 3 Stars. This one was HARD to pop into a genre so that makes it hard to rate as well. I think fantasy fans will not all love it (because that can be SUCH a broad genre) but if you’re in the niche you’ll love this one!
