As its own thing this would have probably rated much higher for me. It was delightfully spicy and the plot was engaging and exciting and the relationship was interesting, but the mythology was, while a creative take I can honestly say I haven't really seen before, a bit too divergent from the myths it is supposed to be based on to work for my personal taste. Still a fun read though.
