Ike and Dick: Portrait of a Strange Political Marriage by Jeffrey Frank

4.0

Interesting read. Ike comes across as remarkably passive-aggressive and quite naive at politics. Nixon, meanwhile, is portrayed as being quite the politician. Surprisingly gripping considering the historical backdrop is well-known (McCarthyism; Supreme Court civil rights decisions; space race). On the last, in particular, Ike seemed quite tone-deaf. Also sad to see Nixon have so much influence with civil rights leaders only to ignore them when it really mattered.
