Becoming Sister Wives: The Story of an Unconventional Marriage by Kody Brown
3.0
Interesting read, but despite their claims, I don't think they are the poster children for polygamy. The third wife, Christine said, 'of all the examples of plural families I've seen, ours is truly the best'. Whilst there appears to be no abuse and all the adults are consenting, I sure wouldn't want to spent eternity with them. One wife in particular obviously has a very dominant and overbearing personality and has caused deep emotional pain to each of her sister wives. The worst of it is that she is a social worker, pretty scary and disturbing! From the way the other wives express themselves they actually seem to be scared of her.
I really enjoy watching the show but this book gave me an unexpected insight into the family and the way it functions. On the show, the dominating wife frequently cries as though she is somehow the victim but the book shows a very different picture. Good read if you like the show 'Sister Wives'. I must also state that I believe they should be free to live the lifestyle without fear of persecution.
