The Moon on a Rainy Night, Vol. 1 by Kuzushiro

5.0

Characters: Kanon Oikawa, Saki Kindaichi

Plot: After a chance encounter, Saki finds herself dreaming of the pretty quiet girl she ran into (literally) in the street at night. Lucky for her the mysterious girl is in her school and sits right next to her! Kanon is hard of hearing and has no intentions of making friends at school. As the story progresses their friendship blooms and Saki learns what life is like for Kanon and Kanon learns to trust Saki.

Thoughts: I devoured this book like it was the last manga on earth, and I can’t wait for the next volume! I love how Saki takes her time to learn more about the deaf and hard of hearing community and does her best to be a good friend for Kanon. Kanon experiences so much growth in this volume in learning how to trust the people around her. The book does a good job showing some of the differences between hard of hearing and deaf people. I love these two so much and can’t wait to see where their relationship leads.
