Such an incredibly moving and haunting story. Really glad I took the time to read it, despite my distaste of present-tense storytelling.
I think the main thing keeping me from rating this a full 5 stars wasthe sexual/sensual encounters of the adult characters. They felt so out of place or at least badly paced, but I get the feeling that’s a personal issue. I have a hard time understanding people who get caught up in the “desire to be near you”, like honestly you have a brain, you can control yourself. The erotic NEED to be all over a person you don’t even know (and are suspicious of) is beyond my ability to comprehend. Took me right out of the story tbh. Also just felt so tonally removed from everything else that was happening, but it didn’t need to, if that makes sense? Idk. I felt similar about some of the descriptions from Orly as well. The information was lovely, but kinda weirdly removed from the rest of the book, even though it didn’t seem like it should be.
I think the main thing keeping me from rating this a full 5 stars was
Graphic: Death, Mental illness, Blood, Medical content, Medical trauma
Moderate: Cursing, Infidelity, Sexual content
Minor: Adult/minor relationship, Cancer, Physical abuse, Sexual assault, Suicide, Violence, Vomit, Murder
