Weathering with You, Vol. 1 by Makoto Shinkai
3.0

Based on an anime film, the manga tells the story of high schooler Hodaka, who runs away from his island hometown over the summer for the big city of Tokyo, where life is harder than he'd imagined.

One rare kindness comes when McDonald's server Hina notices that he's starving and brings him a hamburger. When the two meet again later, he learns how she lost her job for that same kindness--but also learns much more about her.

There is nonstop rain in Tokyo, and everyone is weary of it. Hina, however, has the ability to bring literal sunshine for awhile. The two--along with Hina's older brother--devise a system to monetize The Sunshine Girl and help everyone at the same time.

This is just volume one, and I expect much more to come. Like other manga, I find it sometimes disjointed when trying to figure out some of the action. Once I got involved in the story, though, I enjoyed it. Still, I'm only giving it 3 stars--not enough character development (at least not yet). I would like to read more books in the series, though!
