I Was Better Last Night: A Memoir by Harvey Fierstein

challenging dark emotional funny informative inspiring reflective sad fast-paced

5.0

I only knew Harvey Fierstein from his movies - Mrs Doubtfire and Independence Day - but I saw the book on the library shelf of new arrivals and picked it up.  Loved learning something new!!  I didn't realize he wrote so many famous and daring Broadway shows.  He blends his story telling with his life experiences growing up opening gay during a time when it was illegal.  He had a very experimental theater start and I feel like that total translated into his more commercial writings.  I thoroughly enjoyed his stories and his writing was quite engaging (but now I know why).  Would recommend to others as it opens you up to a whole side of someone you thought you know but really don't.
