I love the Avengers but my oh my the first half of this volume is bad. I wonder if this series wasn't high-profile enough to merit a better artist than Don Heck, or better writing than Stan Lee put into it. If I had a dollar for every time I read "high-pockets", or every time Iron Man ran out of power, I'd buy a steak dinner.
On the plus side, when the team changes members, things are much more interesting. Hawkeye, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch had only appeared a handful of times previously, and could be written more freely without having had that previous characterization.
