An absolutely breathtaking novel. Jane Yolen weaves a meandering yet heart wrenching tale of a woman who shapes her culture with her art and is punished for it. Through all of this she maintains unflinching dignity and poise.
It is a quick read that does not leave you wanting more. Not because the story fails to capture your mind and soul but because Yolen leaves you feel completely satisfied, oddly warm, while tears stream down your cheeks. Tear lines that you do not paint because to do so would cheapen the profound journey that you undertook.
