Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

4.0

Mexican Gothic is a novel about a woman who travels to the countryside to check on her ill cousin and discovers a haunted manor. Moreno-Garcia creates a house that is uniquely nightmarish, blurring reality, and the occupants are disturbing characters. The heroine is well written, and the story incorporates colonialism and eugenics. Mexican Gothic is atmospheric and creepy, and is a nostalgic horror read.
